1903 Ford

The Ford Motor Company was formed on June 16, 1903, and by the end of the year they had produced 670 of these two-seater runabouts. As with many early vehicles it was designed and looked like a buggy but without the horses. The engine was located under the seat and this first Model A is not to be confused with the more stylish and advanced Model A’s of 1928 through 1931 which came after Model T’s were produced.

This model A is a two-cylinder, chain-driven vehicle which runs on a 72 inch wheelbase. It could reach a top speed of 30 m.p.h. It was available for $850 or $950 with a tonneau to be bolted on behind to carry more passengers.

It was the first production model made by Ford Motor Company and for that is quite an achievement. After a short run it was replaced with improved models.
